






The implementation of the new Work Health and Safety legislation (WHS) has been somewhat complicated at times. It is often difficult to keep abreast of the current state of play. Fundamental to the new Act has been the introduction of due diligence for those people who have been determined as “Officers” in the Act.
The spate of storm, fire & flood events over the past year highlights the need to be aware of clean-up costs associated with asbestos materials in buildings. Emergency situations contribute to damage of asbestos materials resulting in contamination & interruptions to business operations.
On 26th September 2011, the Model Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) Regulations were released by Safe Work Australia, with the intention of a national start date of 1st January 2012. Since then, there has been discussion in some states of an extension to the proposed start date.
