






Principal Contractors have a Common Law duty of care to protect the health, welfare & safety of contractors, including reasonable care in employment of contractors, ensuring they are competent to control systems of work; retain general supervision of work; and define respective areas of responsibility.
Construction & refurbishment activities continue to record a consistent high number of worker fatalities. With approximately 20 serious injuries per 1,000 and 5 fatalities per 100,000 employees, SafeWork Australia has consistently identified construction as one of the highest risk industries.
